Have you every done a granny square crochet pattern? I have a confession to make and I hope you won't hate me...I've been crocheting since I was 6 and had NEVER MADE A GRANNY SQUARE until Spring of last year! Crazy right?! I mean there are so many techniques out there, but I feel like this is one of the OG types of crochet. I found this amazing post on sarahmaker.com and I decided I wanted to try it. Well, turns out granny squares are REALLY FUN! It also turns out that I got a bit obsessed...I mean how can you not?! All the different colors, styles, designs, uses. If I were to start all over learning crochet again, I would start there.
Quick side note: I remember when I was in high school, I was on the bus with our wrestling team and one of the cheerleaders was crocheting a granny square blanket. I asked what pattern it was and she said, "Oh it is a simple granny square pattern." This was back in the dark ages when the internet was mostly chat rooms and email. I remember thinking to myself, I'm gonna have ask my grandma if she knows how to make a granny square. Fast forward twenty-ish years later and I FINALLY figured it out!!
Well now that I'm this crazy faux leather patch making girl, with way too much yarn, and never enough time, I get crazy ideas sometimes and just run with them. I was making granny squares one day and decided the only thing better than a granny square is one that is half done already. The only thing better than a half finished granny square would be to make a bag with 2 granny square instead of like 20. (Cue the sound of gears turning slowly.) That's when I decided I would make a granny square patch that you could crochet around, and turn it into a bag! I have since fallen in love with making these bags.
